I cant seem to find an answer to this. Obviusly Mewing "works" much better and faster in younger individuals, and slower/worse the older we get. Why is that? Some people suggest its growth-related (im not even sure what they mean by that). But mewing works best at the very youngest ages even though puberty is when most growth occurs (growth hormone is highest).
"A major growth spurt happens at the time of puberty, usually between 8 to 13 years of age in girls and 10 to 15 years in boys."
The general sense I get is that there is this belief that the bone is remodels in some sort of intelligent fashion. This doesnt make much sense to me, rather it seems more likly that mewing works based on deformation. Like if the bone was fresh clay. The harder you push and pull the more it will reshape. http://lookism.net:80/Thread-Looksmax-Belt-facepulling?pid=952783#pid95278 3" target="_blank" rel="noopener nofollow ugc">Thus why this kid got results with belt pulling. This would explain why hard mewing works better than regular mewing. It would also explain the correlations between biting forces and shull shape/style.
Another conclusion I draw from this is that something like growth hormone would like K2 reduce mewing gains rather than augment anything. Because mewing imo works on deformation and not growth (growth hormone "age's" bone faster).
because forces move things
Why does a 13 year old mewing result in greater and faster gains than a 30 year old doing the same? Likewise a 18 year old will have greater success faster than a 30 year old although perhaps not as great as the 13 yr old. Why is that? And what can we do to improve this situation?
The younger you are the more you have to grow. Proper oral posture during periods of most growth guides the face to grow correctly. The older you are the less growth you have for proper oral posture to guide. A 13 year old can correctly guide their face to grow correctly with proper oral posture. A 30 year old that did not have proper oral posture growing up, now has a misdeveloped face, because of this; the change brought upon by proper oral posture in those ungrowing such as the 30 year old will have to come from bone resorption and deposition which will have less of an effect than guiding growth.
Hope this helps.
Okay, that's roughly what I thought. "will have less of an effect than guiding growth." this is quite vague so Im not sure what you mean by "less of an effect" why would it have less of an effect (whatever that means)? I assume that by less of an effect you mean slower(?) And i assume you mean slower becayse in the 13 year old, the bone structure is less "massive" (has less mass), the sutures are open (very active) and growth hormone levels are very high (thus bone remodeling is operating at increased speed). Is this what you mean?
As you get older cranial bones become more fixed and less able to move.
If you want allow these to move then try holographic breathing. This creates a natural form of mewing and starts a craniofacial breathing motion that continually adjusts the bones of the face and cranium so they can slowly move into a new position over a period of time.
Holographic breathing produces a natural form of mewing. The tongue naturally starts suckling to the roof of the mouth. In holographic breathing this is done in a very relaxed way and over a period of time the tongue releases its toxins and stress and then naturally suckles to the whole roof of the mouth.
Holographic breathing also heals craniofacial dystrophy –
Holographic breathing also creates a craniofacial breathing motion where all of the bones of the skull and tongue are opening and closing with the breath.
So in holographic breathing you're not trying to get the face and cranium into an end position. In holographic breathing, the whole face cranium and tongue breathing and this naturally starts bringing it back to a more natural position. The tongue after a while being fully on the roof of the mouth does the same as mewing but more because it is breathing and moving. The videos to learn holographic breathing are free. If you like mewing my guess is that you'll love holographic breathing.

Alright, let me try to explain better.
I believe proper oral posture helps the proper development of the face in two ways, one is its mechanical signals to the body that promotes growth, and two is remodelling or deformation as you put it, althought I think that is the wrong way to think of remodelling (I'll get to that later).
For growth, I believe proper oral posture as well as a hard diet supposedly sends signals to your body to induce growth. Good resource on bone biomechanics. It's on the DNA appliance but I think its still relevant.
For remodelling, its similar, although instead of being molded like clay, it remodels in a more "intelligent fashion". Rather than bone being pushed and pushing along adjacent bone like clay, remodeling instead works by the body recognizing the pressure on the bone, breaking down bone there (resorption) an depositing it elsewhere (deposition). Because bone does not just mold like clay, the body must "choose" where to deposit the bone. I think the idea is that in response to the mechanical forces from hard diets and proper oral posture the bone, the body "chooses" where to resorb and deposit bone. It knowing where to resorb and deposit is the intelligent part of the "intelligent fashion" remodelling I guess. For example, clenchers having bigger jaws is likely not due to a clay like deformation but from the body depositing more bone there to deal with the force of the clenching. Or shin conditioning, where shin's are strengethened by hitting them, "intelligent" remodelling, not like clay. Another link on how bone behaves under pressure (not like clay).
So lets take this in terms of why proper oral posture "works" much better and faster in younger individuals, and slower/worse the older we get. Let's first clarify what we mean by proper oral posture "working". Proper oral posture helps to develop our faces properly, with the rise of agriculture and the decline or proper oral posture, faces are now smaller (have less bone) and the bone that they do have often has craniofacial dystrophy. So we'll say the effectiveness of proper oral posture to be how much it helps us have more grown faces, and how much it counters craniofacial dystrophy. When I say guiding growth is more effective than remodelling, what I mean is that a face that is growing and has proper oral posture, such as in an young individual with proper oral posture, it will have more bone growing correctly, meaning without craniofacial dystrophy. So young individuals that are growing will have more properly developed bone, and bone that has not developed correctly can be remodelled easier in younger individuals, due to things you have already mentioned (active sutures, hormones). Whereas older individuals will have less bone that is already developed wrong (with craniofacial dystrophy), meaning that it will have to be remodelled (which is slower in older individuals) to be corrected, rather than just being correctly grown in the first place.
Bascially younger people can grow more correctly developed bone and more easily fix unproperly developed bone whereas older individuals do not have as much bone to correctly grow, and must slowly remodel what they have.
@sheeesh Thanks for the response it cleared things up for me. i suppose then that we can address the state of sutures and hormones, but we cannot do anything about the mass issue in adults. I mean if you have ever seen before and after pictures of bodybuilders who abuse growth hormone one can see that they do grow long into adulthood, but of course the growth is always excessive/unaesthetic. Regardless, in moderation, growth hormone and methods to keep sutures open and active appear to be our best methods to achieve best results with mewing at older ages.
If anyone else knows of other hormonal modifications that we can make to speed up bone remodeling or increase suture activity please reply to this thread.
Holographic breathing can work really well sometimes and also feels good and is easy to do.
