Hey everyone
I find that if I have my teeth together in my full, normal bite or whatever it's called, my lower jaw looks a bit recessed and my face kind of looks a bit unnatural, but if I relax my jaw and let my teeth separate, my face looks much more normal. When I started mewing it felt weird because I had to actually pull my lower jaw back a little bit to line up my teeth perfectly and have them together. Should I keep mewing? Should I mew but let my jaw hang? Or what? Are my teeth kind of locking me into not having any mewing progress no matter what happens with my jaws? Or maybe it's not really that way and it's just my facial fat from getting really unhealthy lately, I'm confused...It feels like if I have my front top and bottom teeth resting ontop of each other it looks more natural but I don't know...I try to never apply any force with my teeth when I mew or swallow, just get them as close as possible without touching or touching very lightly (which I think Mew says all the time).
Thanks!
Don't touch teeth or even butterfly touch. Let your jaw hang a few mms. This is more natural. Use the lip seal to hold everything together
Hey thanks for the reply
Ok, I'll try to keep them separate, I never actually clenched I just tried to keep them barely touching but I'll stop doing that now.
So if I let my jaw hang relaxed, my front top and bottom teeth will probably be right ontop of each other, is this ok? Basically my "full bite" won't line up. Again I'll stop making contact with my teeth.
EDIT: Also, do I keep this position when I swallow too? I mean with teeth apart? Because I find that my lower jaw kind of instinctively comes back a little bit to line up my bite when I swallow. And when I chin tuck my lower jaw seems to try to go back a bit and line up my bite too.

Go for a run and breathe from your diafragm and try to relax your lower jaw.
Do a pause in the middle of the Run and try feeling where your mandible wants to sit in order for you to continue deep breathing efficiently.
Thats where your mandible should be when youre mewing.
Alot of recessed people have a functional displacement of the mandible backwards that makes it seem like they have a proper stable regular class1 when biting but in reality their mandibles want to come forward because of TMJ, spinal stress, wrong use facial muscles, maxillary underdevolpment, underoxygenation etc..
Bite means everything and not much at the same time, its hard for me to explain it , English isnt my first language.
Mewing Will decompress TMJ and allow your mandible to come forward Faster thn it remodels the palate. Thats why alot of people feel the need to jut the mandible forward, because the previous podition just isnt comfortable anymore. Eating Will also feel more constricted once you start seeing results.
I have a functional crossbite with alot of displacement on One side and since i Starter mewing my TMJ has stopped clicking on both sides. Thing is i now have a slight underbite/crossbites on One side and a top on top on the other. Midline deviation has gotten much better.

if you don't put your molars together your mandible won't come forwards

So ALL the time, my bite should be completely together but not clenching with just the slightest force? Even when Swallowing?
I'm just worried that this might cause something to move in the wrong way since like I said my face looks slightly weird when I have my molars ontop of each other.

What are you basing this on? Who even says molars need to make contact at rest?
where'd you hear this, eddie?
Most dental professionals recommend letting teeth sit apart (I think about 2mm) to relieve pressure caused by contact.
Also from a logical standpoint this makes sense for jaw development. Your tongue pushing up opposes the downward motion while your medial pterygoid and masseters lightly flex.
Not to mention that if you have a maloclussion, keeping teeth together will only reinforce it.
i thought the teeth being lightly together played a whole in driving the face up, or at least not letting it sink down

They do when biting and chewing. But at rest, bones are better not making contact and letting the muscles do all the work. Muscle use is what moves bone. Not bone itself. Biting and chewing are what cause the teeth to fit inside each other, on the other hand. The force comes from the lip seal, tongue force, medial pterygoid, masseters, and a whole host of other face muscles I am discovering I never used properly, including the mentalis. Many of us suffer from hypotonic faces, not just mouthbreathing. Mouthbreathing is a symptom of multiple underutilized muscles, not just the tongue. I am just not a fan of pushing bone against bone constantly. It doesn't work with any other joint in the body. I don't see the skull as any different.
would it be accurate or fair to call the butterfly bite constantly pushing bone against bone though?
for the record, my natural resting bite is about 1mm apart. I don't butterfly touch but it's very close to
