Spent years beating myself up over what's wrong after mouth breathing and having severe bite issues, and I'm ready to go see a specialist. Was recommend jaw surgery, but would MSE be better? Or something else? What would be best for my face? [Video...

I know I don't look disfigured or anything even though people often give me a hard time about the way my face looks, though I do look older than my age (I don't even want you guys to guess how old I seem; though I did improve my skin a lot which probably helped) which many of my uni peers constantly roasted me about, and in general I seem very asymmetrical. This becomes clear when you look at the two sides of my face from different angles.

I have trouble speaking as well; I was speech delayed several years, and other than sounding odd and often struggling to pronounce things, it hurts to speak for any amount of time.

I'm in my 20s and I also realize that it's probably the best time I'll ever have to do something about the issues I have, and this is something I'm very serious about. I want to only do something only if I'm sure it's the best option I have.

My main two issues are: functionality and how something would affect both the way I speak, and my face.

ESTABLISHED DIAGNOSES:

Cross, open, and deep bite

Sleep apnea and asthma

Deviated septum and enlarged turbinate that caused breathing issues (got surgery on it 2 years ago and I can breathe a bit better)

And my old ortho recommend orthognathic/ jaw surgery alongside braces. Which...yeah. That's something I barely can compute doing as it's just so intensive!

I've been trying to mew for a while now, though I'm not sure if at my age it will do anything.

ALSO: https://mega.nz/file/x15W1DZA#ZnqEiuabNZs-oPmncX7muvp6OJjHM1GUSuuWAU2-tuI for a clearer video that shows my teeth. It's much better than the other video which I made last second bc of the file limit.

Please ask if there's anything unclear. I'm just tired at this point and I want to take some action. It's just I'm afraid of the braces/jaw surgery option as I don't know if that's really the best choice for me and I've heard some horror stories.

I doubt I can make a huge change or anything, but just evening things out would be nice.

Honest opinion, your face looks fine to me, only your teeth are messed up. I think the most glaring problem tbh is the missing tooth and not your bite, so you should get an implant.

My bite looked similar to yours, I think I was 14 on the left, 19 on the right as of recent. I had braces and herbst/RPE, they also told me to wear elastics but I never wore them. It fixed my bite for the most part but I was left with TMD issues. I think with an overbite you just need to flare the teeth out and start using them when your chewing. It'd probably be a good idea to get some expansion as well because that may allow the jaw to come forward if proper occlusion is reestablished. Just look into the threads here on MSE and DNA, if you want to try something more unconfirmed you can try pushing the tongue forward on the alveolar ridge and using the front teeth more to incise food. That might fix your occlusion at least but for your breathing problems you need to start nose breathing if you already aren't and like I said before look into expansion and maybe protraction/forward growth but there's less evidence that's possible as an adult except for surgery.

I don't see significant facial asymmetry in your videos. I guess we're always more self-critical, but my own occlusal cant, deviated nose bridge, and uneven mandible and zygomas seem more obvious and I don't feel like people take notice. MSE might help with your functional concerns. As a young woman, you have a good chance of successfully opening the midpalatal suture. However, there is the risk that MSE can exacerbate existing asymmetry.

I doubt I can make a huge change or anything, but just evening things out would be nice.

I started at 19 and I am 21 right now, just from 20-21 I was able to go from 44mm IMW to 50mm, before that I started with 37mm IMW in late 2018 or early 2019.

I used to be a mouth breather and it was virtually impossible for me to exercise while breathing through my nose, it was also impossible for me to breath through my nose in the colder times and I always thought it were just allergies.

But expanding your palate is legit, I can breath now really well, I always breath through my nose during exercise now and I can still breath most of the time in the winter though sometimes I do get a lot of snot and then I have to breath through my mouth.

So if you have some room to expand, depending your IMW and ICW, you should simply do that just by pressing your tongue upwards while trying to widen it as much as possible(usually relaxing the tongue is key to widening it). Avoid pressing too hard, especially at the rear, soft forces can just as easily shape the palate. If your upper IMW and ICW are small(not sure about female averages), then expanding them will improve your breathing.

Also your face looks actually really cute, you seem to have strong forward growth. In fact abnormally so, do you have some type of bruxism where you clench your lower teeth against your upper teeth? Or as a kid did you do some kind of weird activity like only sideways sucking on your thumb?

Your upper teeth look like they can be naturally restored.

Unfortunately it doesn't look like mewing or anything else you can do outside of implants/manually moving teeth will ever be able to fix your lower teeth. Luckily in these modern times you can easily get teeth implants if you have the $$$.

@auxiliarus Hi, just reading your response and was curious how you achieved that IMW growth, was it with mewing? MSE? Thanks!
