I have been following this forum for quite a while now and i think its about time for me to give something back for all the good information that´s been shared by you guys.
When i was about 17 years old I contacted a dentist to fix what i described as small teeth and a narrow smile. Also i didn´t like that when i smiled my teeth barely showed anything at all. My dentist told me that I had a very narrow upper palate and so she made an appointment for me with an orthodontist.
The orthodontist then took a lot of photos and measured my face in all kind of differrent ways and told me that the only solution for me is to go through sarpe surgery and then maybe another surgery for advancement of the maxilla. The treatment plan in totalt was about 3-4 years and the waiting time to get the surgery was very long.
At this point a lot of things was happening in my life and i didn´t feel like going through with the surgery and so I decided to wait a few years until im done with school. It took quite a while before i heard about mewing but when i started to read more about it, It kind of made sense and i thought why not give it a try. In the beginning it was extremely hard for me to fit the tounge at the palate and only a small part of the tounge actually made contact with the upper palate at all. But i kept on doing it day after day and week after week, i made progress but man did it hurt! I would describe the pain as a very intense pushing feeling in the cheeks, under the ears and sometimes in the nose area. The more of the tounge that i could fit on the palate the more pain i felt but i pushed through and finally one day not long ago i could fit my whole tounge at my palate, its still a bit tight but it sits there and my the whole inside of my motuh feels different in a good way.
It was at this point that i understood that palate must have expanded a lot! And so i contacted my orthodontist again and told her that i want to schedule a meeting with her regarding the sarpe surgery. When she looked in my mouth and again measured the width of my upper jaw she could not believe the expansion that had been made and also told me that i would not need the sarpe surgery anymore. Im so happy and grateful that i found out about mewing and corrected my oral posture, i will continue doing this for life for sure.
Other benefits that i have experienced from mewing:
Better breathing, exercising that used to get me exhausted now feels easy.
When i wake up in the morning i have a lot more energy and very rarely feel tired, before i was extremely tired every single morning after waking up.
My cheekbones are clearly wider, people have commented on this.
My eyes look more "alive" and alert and i think that my vision may be slightly better.
My smile is wider and more teeth show when i smile.
My nose got a little bit more turned up and look a bit smaller.
My lips look a lot more symmetrical and overall more full and better.
My voice sounds more clear and pronouncing letters feels easier.
My mood overall is a lot better, i think more positive thoughts and am generelly happy with life.
This may have another cause but my results in the gym since i started mewing have been crazy good and its feels like my muscle mass increase very fast.
Supplements that im taking is creatine,multi-vitamin,protein powder, and vitamin K.
Would be happy to answer any questions if there is any!
Very cool, thanks for sharing! It's nice to hear a success story. You're very lucky to have discovered mewing at an early age. Now you can look forward to a life of better health and graceful ageing. 😀
What is your tongue position style? Do you focus on the swallow to get your tongue up? Or do you just push it up there?
Do you follow any other mewing habits like chewing gum or McKenzie Chin tucks?
whats your measurements beofre and after?
My tongue position has changed a lot and i mean a lot during my development. At this point my whole toungue rests quite comfortable at the very roof of the palate (a alot further back than i ever imagined was possible) and the tip of the tongue rests just a bit behind my front teeth. In the beginning i focused very much on getting just a small part of the tongue on the palate in order to expand. But the more of the tongue that i managed to fit i started to focus on the mew swallow which i think helped just as much as having the correct posture.
It was during the swallows that i could "feel" the expansion happening with a lot of popping and cracking sounds, was kind of scary in the beginning but once i got used to it i started to enjoy the pain and the sounds as i knew it was my facial structure evolving in to the position it was meant to have from the beginning, this i think has been my greatest motivation.
I have been chewing a ton of gum, not mastic gum just a lot of your regular sugarfree gum, probably a pack per day with 5-7 pieces in the mouth at a time. I have also been doing what Mike Mew spoke about in a video and pushed the gum up to the palate, think he calls it "tongue chewing" The chewing part i think has made my masseter muscle bigger and more prominent. I haven´t really looked in to the chin tucks yet though.
whats your measurements beofre and after?
In the beginning my intermolar width was as low as 30 mm, as of right now im not really sure but i estimate it to be around 40 mm
Nice to read man congrats, please explain in more detail your technique in the beggining, did you have trouble breathing, like a lot of us? You could help a lot of people by giving your expirience, thanks for sharing.
Yo
holy shite man thats a lot of progress keep it up. so just chewing, tongue chewing, swallow properly, and mewing is all youve been doing? which do you feel causes you to increase the tongue flexibility the most?
10mm is fucking insane, especially from 30. Unreal
Genuinely astounded. Well done, mate.
How hard were you pushing on the palate throughout your journey and how long did it take you to achieve 10mm expansion?

Thank you! The technique in the beginning was quite simply to just push the tip of the tounge (the only part of the tongue that i could get up there) and just hold it there for as much time as possible, it was extremely hard and took a lot of concious effort for me to do so but after a while i was able to get more and more of the tongue up to the palate and when i had expanded enough for the back of the tongue to touch the roof of the palate thats when the real progress started, from there I think i developed very fast. Breathing was hard in the beginning but it became a lot easier after i started to put a bit of tape over my mouth before i went to bed, after that nose breathing started to feel better and better.

I like to think thats its the combination of all of the things that made the progress go as fast as it did but the one thing that really made me feel the expansion happening was when i started to swallow when the tongue was in proper position, it was mostly this that caused the popping and cracking sounds, felt like my facial bones was realigning to the places where they were meant to be, even though it hurt it was a quite satisfying feeling really.
@krollic Thank you! I had not expected such a big improvment myself. I was pushing very very hard on to the palate basically 24 / 7 i have a office job so i was able to hard mew even at work which i think has helped. The total time for the 10 mm expansion probably took me 1.5-2 years but with the most progress happening the last 6 months when I was able to fit the whole tongue on to the palate. It was like as soon as i got the posture completely right (at least i think i did) the changes was happening very fast and it felt like my body cooperated instead of making resistance to the force that I i was applying. I have heard others saying the same thing and i believe that our body wants to reach its full natural potential and once we get the posture right it´s more or less happening by itself.
Thats amazing any chance for progress pics?

Im sorrry that i have been absent from the thread for a while. Unfortunetly i didnt take any "palate pictures" before starting mewing but i do think that i have a picture of me smiling which would show my narrow palate. I started taking picture inside of my mouth like 6 months from now but even those pictures show a great increase in inter molar distance. I´ll see if i can upload some of them later. For some reason i feel a bit weird about posting pictures of my mouth online but i do understand that it would help to back up the benefits that i claim.
Also one other thing that i have noticed in the late stage of my progess is increased attention from the other gender. I don´t know if its due to me being and feeling more confident or if the girls that i have met are really in to wider palates, just anecdotal evidence of course but It´s just something i found worth mentioning since the increasd attention is really something that i have noticed lately.
Did you wear retainers maybe fixed retainers on 6 teeth ? O have that my inter molar witdh is 32mm and j have those retainers does they need to be removed?

It would be awesome to see your palate before/after and your smile, to see how the palate expands, flattens, how teeth tilt, how your smile and its black corridors change.
Also, with that much expansion, have you observed any midface-shortening ? Can you relate to this thread ? https://wholebodybreathing.com/community/community/main-forum/high-arched-palate-and-maxillary-growth/
Thank you 🙂
@Bogdar The difference in my smile is significant. However i don´t believe that I am fully developed yet, since my mandible is so wide i probably need a few more mm´s of expansion to get it fit even better. But my balck corridors has definetly decreased.
When I find the courage to post a picture i will do that.
Regarding the other thread you linked, yes I have noticed a shortening of the face. It looks less long and more square.
Just a "fun" fact to add is that yesterday I sat at home doing my regular hardmewing excercice, spreading my tounge up to the palate i suddenly felt this almost unbearable pain only on the right side of my face, particularly around my ear-area and cheeks. I had to grab a pillow really hard and squeeze it in order to not go crazy. The pain would stay for as long as was applying pressure with the tongue until it suddenly stopped after about 40 minutes of pushing. After this intense excercice I am sure that my tongue fitted just a bit better on the palate.
Also this night i slept very good, woke up feeling rested and also woke up with the tongue in proper position.
I got some pretty nice updates guys!
I have kept doing my hardmewing routine everyday since i started this thread and i have been experiencing some pretty nice improvements: My nasal breathing has increased by a lot, i thought it was pretty good back when i started the thread but man this feels like a whole new world, It´s especially noticeable when im working out, i dont have to mouth breath at all even during my 5-7 km runs. I feel even more refreshed when im waking up in the morning.
Also one other thing thas has improved is my complexion, I can´t for sure say its due to mewing but in the recent months my skin is totally blemish-free (which it basically never have been before) and it also looks a lot tighter around my face area.
My Cheekbones are definetly more prominent and people have asked me if i have lost weight (which i have not, rather gained a few pounds which I hope is muscle mass though!)
I also have been getting comments from people who doesn´t see me very often saying that i look good, even my family told me this and then i asked them what exactly it is that look good. They couldn´t point it out but said that it was something different about my face in a good way.
I also have been practicing this (for me) new mewing technique where i put the tongue on the roof of my mouth and then take a deep nasal breath while i spread the tongue on the palate, this creates a popping sounds around the ear, cheekbones and nose area and feels like a relief in the head.
I also found a dentist / orthodontist in my area (northen europe) who agrees with the orthotropic premises so i actually booked a consultation this week for getting the DNA-appliance or ALF-appliance in order to hopefully speed up my results and get as close as i can to my genetic potential while im still quite young.
Just a quick update from me, i hope that my improvements can inspire someone to keep at it and i will be very happy to answer any questions if there is any! 🙂
@achillespalate Glad to hear that you are still improving, thanks for the update.
RIP the poor soul who thinks chewing gum will expand his palate or give him a stronger jaw 😂
If you had read the thread you would have known that the palatal expansion was not due to chewing gum but due to proper tongue and body posture over time. And since 2 separate orthodontists have confirmed that palatal expansion has occured i don’t think i need your approval but thanks for the reply anyway 🙂
Tf you on about? I was just saying I rip the poor soul who thinks that.
Also, idle tongue posture doesn’t expand the palate 😂 swallowing does.
Im sorry if i missunderstood you but I thought you were reffering to my story and so I wanted to explain that my expansion was not thanks to chewing gum.
However i still believe that having proper tongue posture is crucial for expanding the palate and of course swallowing with the tongue in the right position is also part of correcting yourself, in my opinion its not one single excercise that is going to fix you but rather the combination of postural improvements throughout the whole body but it all starts with proper tongue posture, resting position aswell as swallowing. In my case I have had improvments in body posture aswell as head posture as an effect of proper tongue posture,
Can you see if you got any changes in IPD?
Hey man, english is not my native language so im not sure what IPD means, would you like to explain?
Hey man, english is not my native language so im not sure what IPD means, would you like to explain?
@achillespalate It means interpupillary distance, the distance between your pupil in the left eye and your pupil in the right eye. Pupil is the black hole at the center of your eye. In fact this measurement is used for fitting eyeglasses... it’s also a measurement of the width of the face.
Oh, alright! Well i haven´t measured that distance but one thing I know is that i had to have my Ray Ban Sunglasses adjusted to fit me.
Hi!
I finally feel like I'm able to fit my entire tongue up there but I'm not too sure how to exert pressure. Were you able to do that right from the start? How did yous start hard mewing unconciously? I don't feel any pressure near my ears or cheeks so i may be doing it wrong. Any advise?
that's sound awesome ! I like those kind of topics
Amazing bro. This post motivates me
It's interesting that you say you forced the tip of your tongue up, because I don't know if I've ever given that a real go in the 5+ years I've been doing all this stuff - it is easy to misconstrue when people say the word "force" in this community because you'd most likely think that means exerting a lot of pressure at all times, but at least in my case, the tip of my tongue is pretty limp and doesn't really lay flat on my palate, so I'm sure making it stay up there would be a great help.
Insane man great job. At what age did you start and how old are you now ?
It has been going in stages for me, in the start i had a really hard time to keep any part of the tongue on the palate at all and it took a very concious effort for me to do it, it was actually quite exhausting. What´s interesting is that when i keep the tip of the tongue in what i believe to be the proper position i feel a tingling feeling in the nose area and around the nostrils.
Thank you! I started at age 22 and I am 25 years old now.
By the way, did you push in lateral direction the hardest? (Sideways). I assume this would be the most efficient for palatal expansion
Exactly, I have been practicing to flatten the tongue against the palate and push as hard as i possibly can. It feels like the expansion of the palate was very slow in the beginning and that it goes faster the more it expands, i feel like the tongue get more "leverage" as the palate expands. The hardest part was definetly in the start, it takes insane dedication if the palate is very narrow.
Also, is there anyone who feels that they have a good understanding of facial development?
I Have some pictures from 2 years ago and just took som new ones so it would be interesting to see if you can see a difference. I´m a bit too shy to post the pictures in the thread.
Very interesting post. Feel good for ya man. Btw do you have wisdom tooth? Did 10 mm intermolar increase get you space for them?
Yes I would say so looking back at the pictures from before I started, face looks a bit shorter and more “compact” if that makes sense.
I the difference is subtle but it’s definitely there for sure.
@achillespalate Thanks, would you say you think that your shorter face make you more atttractive? Do you put a lot of pressure on the roof of your mouth and where? Just the back or the tip as well ?
