I am a big believer of if it’s not broke, don’t fix it.
Yup but you can find a lot of info on it

What does exercise do for the airway if it's still going to be restricted in size? I'd think that exercising too hard would put a lot of stress on the body if breathing is so difficult, unless the additional ventilation helps the body adapt, somewhat.
@paperbag I think it does help to an extent especially doing sprints the body optimizes your breathing
darkindigo you boviously have some knowledge but a lot of what you post is pretty out there. Mewing works if you do it correctly it just naturally how were supposed to be.
I agree excercise can play a role but without tongue posture you wont make any airway progreess
But I do remember last summer I did a lot of sprints and felt like i could breath easier so i think its a factor
we learn tongue posture by getting brestfed some moms don't do that they use a normall bottle which the baby learns not to suck the palate but to suck the teeth also the soft diet is really bad for teeth i agree look at the book weston a price
Such a shame you weren’t there to tell poor Ibrahimovic to exercise more so he could’ve ended up with good facial development
His CBCT May reveal more. His undereyes look good. Coloratation hard to tell. Pale is trouble... but depends on ethnicity. Mentally I bet he is well. His chin looks a little back. Need video to tell. Recessed chin typically can hurt energy levels. There is hope for us. Excape the feedback loop in early years. Not sure his history. Allergies? Not sure. There are other factors - exercise is big, though.

Don’t have the luxury of seeing what life would have been without sports.
Well, here's him as a kid for reference.

I would bet good money that mewing without exercise would've helped more with his facial development than having a world-class soccer career.

he has already a long face at this point of his life
Of course, what's your point? Maybe I should've used this photo instead since he started playing at the age of 6.

dark indigo it seems youve experimented with many different methods ti change your face but it seems that the one thats caused you damage was not mewing. It seems to be the other risky ones you attempted. MEwing is hoenstly very complicated I still dont fucking know how to do it right but i think from learning about mewing many of us over think and create an unatural swallow or posture. I think the most importnat parts are swallowing with a cheesy smile and eyebrows raised to train your tongue to swallow properly. Secondly You need to apply pressure in the area your lacking. for example I mewed for a year with a tongue tie and I didnt make much progress. But recently I have realized the part of my pallete that is lacking is actually my front and it just so happens thats the position my tongue is the least flexbile in. So im going to practice increasing ROM for a while to see what happens. Remember most of have improper posture which means the muscles in the tongue are most likely atrophied and tight from not being utilized properly. Just like how our hamstring can get tight and you lose a lot of ROM from inactivity and sititng down its the same thing. @darkindigo

Yes, @darkindigo ... You mention mewing wrong caused your problems, so maybe mewing correctly will fix them? You also indicate in your posts, that mewing can be dangerous, but yet you are trying even more dangerous methods.
@rockyp33 ... One of the methods I have discovered recently to increase the contact of the front and the middle part of the tongue with the roof of the mouth, is to inflate the tongue like a balloon. This essentially pushes the tongue outwards in all directions, except towards the front teeth because the tip of the tongue is firmly placed on the spot. This method also prevents me from bulging out the muscles under my chin.
... And I very much agree with your opinion about swallowing. After several months of mewing I just started practicing the very very cheesy swallow and I am amazed at how much it has improved my swallow, as well as gotten more of the back of my tongue up, raising my hyoid bone higher.
Yes but its very hard to tell if im doing it right sometimes ill try hard to cheesy swallow and i end up pushing the front of the tongue than the back but when i completely relax and do the cheesy swallow i know it just goes straight to the swallow. The second one feels way more natural for me
what was your method?
Surgery is probably safer
Really?
I'm going to say this. You shouldn't disgrace Mew's name with your bull-crap darkindigo. You post random stuff as if you're knowledgeable(even though no one truly is on this fresh topic) all the time and now you've damaged yourself. At least don't damage mew's reputation by claiming you did mewing. Mike Mew specifically advises a safe way to mew, only reshaping the face with passive force from tongue and proper posture, and proper swallowing.
Learn from your mistakes, stop acting knowledgeable. Even in this post you're trying to advise something, first learn then talk.
INB4 : "Hard mewing works so well", zero proof of hard mewing working well, don't bring that guy djamo in this who took a pic at 15 and 19 and called it a "result of hard mewing". Ty.
This technique you say is dangerous, I can understand hesitation to share information like that, but at the same time how can we know what to avoid if you don't let us know what it was that not only didn't work, but caused harm?
Also slightly unclear why you're stuck in a deep bite/open bite issues. Brenden Stack created and closed open bites all day in his practice. Gelb style condylar repositiong/remodeling and Extrusion mechanics seems to help/resolve with problems similar to what you describe. I'm truly curious b/c you seem to have a grasp of things which isn't so limited you'd hold conclusions out of ignorance - everyone has knowledge gaps but I gather you've exposed yourself to a lot of info and what Dr. Stacks pioneered is old news to you. I guess I think it would be very useful if you took the time to really go into detail outlining what happened and what went wrong, so that those of us exploring 'the perfect fix' are better able to avoid repeating history.
btw, my focus has been heavy on the TMD side of things. TMJs are a very adaptable joint. A little wobble or shift isn't a big deal. Big deal would be if the changes in bite become unstable enough to cause long-term problems. TMJs take time to shift and remodel, so it's hard to say until things either get better or truly get worse (which is very hard to discern as joints in that are reseating can click and hurt before they get stable again). If things really are unstable, it would be a good idea to try to get it sorted and most definitely something you'd want a CBCT to assess.
But in what situation does chewing hard and chewgum could be bad by getting TMJ?
@darkindigo From what I gather, right now your methods include proper tongue posture using the "sing" method, along with exercise such as yoga which is going to give you good and balanced body posture. Sounds like mewing to me! 😀
And this mom seems pretty happy with Dr. Mew... https://youtu.be/ZXsQBiAaKdk
nothing bad wiht mewing indigo it was your dangerous endeavors that causes you problems hard mewing hsould not be reccomended to kids but proper tongue posture is essential; to growing a proper airway which is the most important thing to having a healthy mind and body. @darkindigo https://www.westonaprice.org/health-topics/notes-from-yesteryear/100-years-before-weston-price/
I also don't like the whole push for kids! Eating harder foods can shorten the face fast - sure - but it can also cause occular damage. He just isn't paying attention and it's super theoretical for kids & that scares me much more - along with no disclaimer aimed at those he is clearly continuing to harm. He just isn't careful and you really ought to be with kids. Psychilogical impact... there are many who can have body issues from stuff... are, can and do. That frightens me. Eating with lips closed stretches the tissues around lips. It's scary to see Gopex kids all stretched out... He used to recommend (still in some older videos posted on YouTube) that kids chew gum 1 hr/day. He applied this to his daughter THEN did complete reversal, talking about the damage that this can cause to the jaws! I hate to say this - but I'm the only one protecting the kids from this madness!!!! He's damaged adults now is emboldened in his internet fury by going after kids?!?!? What a dangerous guy. So dangerous!
I think the push for kids is absolutely necessary. Poor sleep due to poor facial growth is an epidemic that must be addressed and isn't up for debate - the data from Stanford and other universities is very explicit in how detrimental SDB is to children and the impact it has on society as they become adults. How to fix facial growth is...a problem we need to tackle head-on, and finding what works and what doesn't I think is going to be messy for a variety of reasons. I think that won't change until public awareness hits a threshold that makes the academics pay closer attention to this topic and get better funding.
I also think you're overreacting to the harm caused by mewing/gum chewing. Chewing is...that's part of our biology. The problem is, in broken systems, in a masticatory system in which proper development has not taken place, it's ability to function at what could be called humanities anthropological norm is compromised. Our poor facial growth is a disease state, and so when it's put under what are otherwise healthy pressures, it might cause harm. I think oral exercises should be engaged in with the same caution as sports - don't go trying to run marathons without extensive training.
I think the focus on cosmetics, on appearance, is a distraction given the impact facial anatomy can have on health. I think getting people functioning at their optimum physiologically is the priority, and making them look good is secondary.
@lastquestion it really is crazy how important it is. Just think how many problems would be solved. It only makes sense... If our body and airway isnt fully grown properly how will our brain be? that would mean that a lot of adults are getting the same amount of oxygen that a child would be getting. I can see how that can affect every aspect of someones life. If there wasnt this problem I think life would be so much better for everyone. IF you look at those with great development they seem happy health and stable in every situation despite the circumstances. Proper airway growth is very understudied and a huge key to living a happy life
There is no overblown promise its just like a bunch of people lifting weights without worrying about form. If you mean mewing by proper tongue posture and proper swallow their is no harm to that its just essentials
Darkindigo, you said your maxilla was lifted up too much, causing open bite. You also said you have deep bite. Which one is it?
Did your maxilla rotate forward making your front teeth bite deep but your molars open? Because if it rotated up your front teeth would be open, and I don’t see how molars can bite too deep unless your palate expanded past the lower molars.
Either way it seems pretty unlikely you got so much change in 7 months. How old are you?
Tbh, I think this resulted from impatience. Fiddling with unknown methods hoping to get faster results because mewing the way that was described didn't give noticable results.
Stick with ways that worked to correct the underlying problems of dental/postural problems.
All I'm gonna say is: Gohkale, VoiceGym, Mewing and thumb massaging my palate (facial lymph massage as well, but thats not really working on the bone structure, but rather on the drainage of excess stuff in the face). I don't post as much here on this forum because I feel like I got all the information I need to improve my body's posture, from this forum and the one before this: breakthematrix.
I don't like how this forum calls somone a trusted member if they post alot.
No offense but 90% of what I've read from you feels so emotionally fueled rather than logically thought through and makes it hard to take you serious.
did thumb massage work for you?
