i met a functional orthodontist in the states thats heard of doctor mew and knows of his work he took a model of my bite and made a treatment plan. should i go along with it? step 1 is to expand my upper front palate which then step 2 expand the lower palate. I trust he knows what hes doing but i just wanna make sure nothing negative will happen. I keep thinking about starting my expansion then i think no i just need to cut my tongue tie and itll happen naturally over time but i keep going back and forth.

Try it and tell us what he is recommending and document your journey

What is your current intermolar width? If I had the money and a good functional orthodontist nearby, I would go for it. However, appliances can be used incorrectly and cause side effects. You might want to read about this case to avoid complications:

If that's right then you could probably make some progress without an expander through tongue posture alone. I used an expander to increase my intermolar width from 34mm. I'm still a little under 40mm, but I now find it much easier to correctly posture my tongue.

You might be able to get the expansion you want through tongue posture alone if you have the space to get it into the right position. If you have a tongue tie, you could probably benefit from frenectomy whether you decide to use an expander or not.
