I'll have to admit... I've recently seen some pretty alarming results from tongue releases. Are we overtreating?!
Why ?
Yeah, and the lip ties, too. I once saw a very bad lip tie release for an elderly woman. Going from quite good for her age to everything in her mid face area collapsing and looking worse as a result. Can't seem to find it again. But I think the ties can be stretched, possibly despite your age. My daughter has supposedly the worst lip tie type, and to begin with her lower teeth would mainly show when smiling. You can get it cut to remedy this, but either my intervention worked or it resolved on its own. Tickling seemed to give a nice stretch, just don't be a jerk when doing that obviously. For tongue tie luckily my daughter has an instinct to stretch it on her own from 5 months old and onwards, I also taught her to stick out her tongue which is considered rude to some people, most don't expect perfect etiquette from a toddler though. Ties are an overblown concern with breastfeeding, may cause oral aversion and doesn't always resolve the problem. An oft disregarded possibility is the mother's nipples beind too flat. Scheduling feedings too far apart (so supply dips) instead of feeding on demand is considered outdated practice and reduces opportunity for the infant to help correct this issue.
Someone wrote about getting their lip tie released as part of their fagga treatment, saying it's supposed to help the maxilla move forwards. I wonder if they lost some insurance of preventing it moving unfavourably in old age, though.
Remember this pain... and let it activate you.
