Does anyone think it would be useful to sleep with one of those anti-snoring/sleep apnea masks that strap under your chin? Maybe even wearing it while awake when possible, depending on how much pressure it applies to keeping your mouth shut. I haven't seen any results in the past 2 years with everything else I've done, so for all I know, all progress is being undone while asleep with horrible open mouth posture.
Go for it friendo.
for people who sleep with mouth open I think they should certainly be using such a product
I would be concerned that there is a "backward" component to the force holding up the mandible.
I used to wake up with my mouth slightly open and my teeth apart until I started clench swallowing. It's similar to a push swallow but you activate it by clenching the teeth together, and you keep them clenched together throughout the whole swallow. I think that something about doing this trains the jaws to stay together. I've noticed that my teeth don't come apart all the time in the middle of the day like they used to either. One of my biggest complaints with push swallowing was always that it felt like my tongue was trying to push my jaws apart every time I swallowed.
As for that device you linked to, I tried building one on my own using fabric I had at home but it was very uncomfortable and I couldn't sleep with it on. Give it a shot though and let us know how it goes. The more experimentation we do and information we share the better.
I think Mew said that these straps have a backward force... sorry but I can't remember when/where I heard that.
Also something to think about is how Asian women use these products as a "face-slimming" device.
Could use of this device lengthen the face?
eta: just remembered, Mew actually said they have a backward force when used in conjunction with a sleep apnea mask
Remember this pain... and let it activate you.
I tried some straps before, and it just encourage my lower jaw to stay open... depends on your anatomy. I opted and trained myself to sleep with my hand beneath my chin to stay shut instead. Also, there’s micro-pore tape :)
