Particularly curious about what device was used in the woman on the pictures, nice cheekbone widening:

He uses biobloc. That woman was probably treated with a upper biobloc stage 1 appliance.
I think it's Biobloc stage 1, but not 100% sure.
Could be.I think he mentioned Biobloc sometimes. What I don't get though, is that Biobloc is tooth borne and they say you need bone borne as an adult in order to split the suture and especially get zygomatic expansion, which that lady obviously got. What about that?
You don't need to split to palate for expansion, it's probably preferable if you don't do that in the first place because the bone that forms between the suture will be scar tissue and it will take months to turn into actual bone, therefore rapid expansion is susceptible to relapse. Also, tooth borne appliances are not really a problem unless you move the tooth too fast or tip it, it looks like the biobloc rests on the tissue/inside of the arch a bit as well, not just the teeth, so there's really no issue there.
Yeah you don't need to split if for expansion of the palate and dental arch, but you do need to split it if you want to expand your whole maxilla, push the zygoma's outward and increase the size of the nasal cavity.
Where did you get that about the scar tissue? I never heard of that. It's not scar tissue if it can be replaced by bone. And leaving the device in for 6 months or so will make sure it can stabilize.
Also tissue borne expanders (the ones that push against the mucosa) can cause tipping as well. The wire in front of the teeth might prevent it though I think.
When you expand the palate you're expanding the whole maxilla as well
It has never been proven that u NEED to split the suture to suture expand the whole maxilla, only that splitting the suture HELPS expanding the whole maxilla.
He probably doesn't want to be drilling screws into people's heads for MSE, would be my guess. I don't even see how Biobloc for adults is so great, it just looks like a regular expander with the anterior acrylic removed.
